Brain damage or death can result from heavy exposure.
Precautions must be followed to ensure crew safety
when personnel heater, main or auxiliary engine of any
vehicle is operated for any purpose.
n Do not operate vehicle engine in enclosed areas.
n Do not idle vehicle engine with vehicle windows
closed.
n Be alert at all times for exhaust odors.
n Be alert for exhaust poisoning symptoms:
Headache
Dizziness
Sleepiness
Loss of Muscular Control
If you see another person with exhaust poisoning symp-
toms, proceed with the following:
n
Remove person from area
n
Expose to open air
n
Keep person warm
n
Do not permit physical exercise
n
Administer artificial respiration, if necessary
n
Seek immediate medical attention
Be aware; the field protective mask for NBC protection will
not protect you from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Do not operate personnel heater with vehicle breather vent
closed. Carbon monoxide poisoning can occur. Failure to
comply may result in injury or death to personnel.
