Procedure
Clean batteries, trays, supports, and retainers (see
paragraph 6-4).
If supports, trays, and/or retainers are corroded, paint
with acid-resistant paint.
NOTE
Batteries are in good condition and serviceable
when the following conditions are met:
The specific gravity readings are between
1.250 and 1.300 corrected to 80°F (27°C)
(1.200 to 1.225 for batteries used in tropical
climates).
The specific gravity between individual cells
does not vary by more than 0.040.
Test specific gravity of battery electrolyte. Specific
gravity shall be a minimum of 1.225 under normal
operating conditions
and 1.180 under tropical
conditions (refer to TM 9-6140-200-14). If specific
gravity is unsatisfactory, charge or replace batteries (see
paragraph 64).
