TM 9-2350-238-10STARTING ENGINE BY TOWING1234Do not depress acceleratoron towed vehicle and do notexceed 10 miles per hourwhen tow-starting vehicle.l Do not attempt to tow-starta M 110A2 with the recoveryvehicle. Use anotherM110A2 vehicle. TheM110A2 cannon and muzzlebrake will not clear M578cab.Connect tow bar (1) between towingvehicle pintle (2) and towed vehicle tow-ing lugs (3).Shift transmission to range 2 on towedvehicle.Make sure that all electrical switches areOFF, that hand throttle is pushed in, andthat engine shutdown handle in towedvehicle is pushed in against hull.Turn MASTER switch and instrumentswitch ON in towed vehicle.5 Depress service brake, lift up on parkingbrake handle and push handle to panel torelease parking brake on towed vehicle.6 Tow vehicle forward in a straight line.Engine should start by the time vehiclespeed reaches 6 to 8 mph (9.65 to12.88 kph).7 When engine in towed vehicle starts,shift into N (neutral) and adjust handthrottle until engine operates at fast idle(1,000 to 1,200 rpm).8 Allow engine to warm up at 1,000 to1,200 rpm for approximately 5 minutes.Watch that BATTERY/generator indicatorreturns to NORMAL zone.Place transrnission shift leverin neutral and lock brakes onboth vehicles before remov-ing tow bar.9 Disconnect tow bar from both vehicles.10 Perform instrument panel checkout pro-cedures during engine warm-up period.Refer to page 2-54.2 - 56
