MAINTENANCE OF VEHICLE TOW DRUM WINCH (CONT).REASSEMBLY (CONT)22232425Install new preformed packing (35),winch collar (36), and two hexagon plainnuts (37) on carrier brake rod (34) atbrake control end of planetary winchdrum (5).Hydraulic system is under highpressure. Follow hydraulic systemsafety procedures to prevent injury(TM 9-2350-238-20-2), Wipe upspilled hydraulic fluid.NOTERefer to TM 9-4940-468-14 for step23 setup procedures.Connect hydraulic line (38) to intake portof winch control cylinder (19). Apply200 psi (1379 kPa) hydraulic pressure towinch control cylinder. Maintain evenpressure until motor end winch supportis installed on planetary winch drum (5)in reassembly step 30.Ensure sliding sleeve brake clutchand brake plate are installed oneafter another until all seven itemsare installed.Install four sliding sleeve brake clutches(39), three brake plates (40), and retain-ing ring (41) on stage one carrier assem-bly (30) inside motor end of planetarywinch drum {5).Coat mating surfaces of new carrierhousing plain encased seal (42) andwinch brake housing (43) with sealingcompound (item 18, appx B). Using driftand hammer, install new carrier housingplain encased seal (42) on winch brakehousing.2-128
