CHAPTER 3: MAINTENANCE OF ENGINETM 9-2350-256-203-1 REPLACE POWERPLANT-ContinuedWARNINGKeep hands and arms away from propeller shaft while engine is running, or serious injury to personnelwill result.NOTEIf necessary to turn propeller shaft to aline screw holes, turn MASTER switch to ON position. HoldFUEL SHUTOFF switch in OFF position and touch STARTER switch. When holes are in position forinstallation, turn MASTER switch to OFF position.21Slide propeller shaft (5) into position on power takeoffcoupling (4) and secure with four screws (2) and fournew lockwashers (3). Secure four screws with newlockwire (1).22Remove both fabricated stops (22).23Remove access plug (77) from left steer clutchhousing (78).NOTEEnsure that vehicle is in N (neutral) withbrakes released and tracks blocked beforeattempting to rotate steering tie shaft.24Insert screwdriver in hole and engage slot in steeringtie shaft.25Using a second screwdriver, apply pressure on rightcoupling (23) flange toward steer clutch housing andsimultaneously turn steering tie shaft until gear teethmesh. It may be necessary to use a 12-in. (305-mm)adjustable, open-end wrench on screwdriver to turnsteering tie shaft. Minimum vertical movement ofcoupling may require a piece of wire for support whileengaging gear teeth.3-12
