Securely block arm to preventarm from falling after bar has beenremoved.3Remove torsion bar (6) by using adapter andpuller.4Remove torsion bar anchor cover plate (7) byremoving four screws (8) and four lockwashers (9).5Remove and discard gasket (11) from torsion baranchor cover plate (7).6Remove torsion bar anchor (10).b .INSTALLATIONNOTEDuring installation, place the torsion baranchor (10) in the housing so that the word"FRONT" is toward the front of the vehicleand the cover tangs enter the spannerholes.1Coat torsion bar anchor (10) and anchor splineswith grease and install torsion bar anchor.2Install torsion bar cover plate (7) and newgasket (11) with four screws (8) and four newlockwashers (9). Torque screw to 40-50 lb-ft (54-68 N•m).CAUTIONWhen installing the torsion bar (6), it is notnecessary to drive the bar in. Whenproperly alined, the bar will slide in easily.If bar is forced, splines will be damagedTorsion bars must not be interchanged.Each bar is stamped (on its outside face)with the part number, and an arrowshowing the direction of the loadingtorque. Before installing a new torsionbar, check markings on the bar to becertain that the correct bar is used.8-4
